What you can expect from a Mat Based Pilates class
Pilates was created in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates, originally for male rehabilitation, military training and boxing. It allows you to build balance, functional strength, coordination and posture, which benefits everyone regardless of gender.
A 1 hour mat based Pilates class challenges the entire body through controlled and precise movements which will build flexibility, strength and endurance. It targets stabilising muscles, in particular the core which allows you to improve your balance, posture and coordination. A focus is placed on form and resistance, the breath requires both physical and mental effort throughout the class, making Pilates a full body workout both within the body and outside of the body.
The exercises can be modified for any fitness level, ensuring it is accessible to everyone.
